The battle of Falkirk .22 July 1298

    H i Friends.
Out and about to night went up to Falkirk old church its in the main street i just wonder how many shoppers go bye here and just dont realy know the history that is in the old kirk yard . Two warriour barons were John de Graham who fought with William Wallace at the Battle of Falkirk. And John Stewart. Both were killed at the battle of Falkirk.
Edward the I of England had enough of Wallace , Wallace  was knighted Guardian at the kirk of the forrest in selkirk and he had the great seal of Scotland after king John Baiol was kicked out of Scotland and Edward the I bulled him and he had the nickname toom tabard. Empty coat. He escaped to his family lands in France.
This battle was a defeat for Wallace and a great loss to the scotts .
Edward the I ralled his English army and he came north to Falkirk  Wallace was facing the greatest Army in christendom and He as a commander must of had some wieght on his shoulder the army was gathered into shiltroms with pickes and circles just like hedgehogs .
The invading army pushed north and the king ordered a scorched earth policy burn everything in site.. After the battle Wallace resigned his guardianship and was on the loose in Scotland with his band of men raiding and attacking gurilllia like tactics he was caught at Robroyston and sent South  to face the gallows in London.
    Murdered 1305.

    Inchmahom Priory

    Hi friends.
This is Inchmahom Abbey and it is set in the most stunning of Scottish lakes it is in fact the only lake in Scotland
The lake of Mentieth. The enchanting ruins of Inchmahom Priory grace the largest of three islands in the lake of menteith.
The ancient order of Augustinians were drawn here by the islands isolation and tranquility.
It has graced the pressance of the infant Mary Queen Of Scots and Mary of Quise and Also King Robert the Bruce prayed here before the battle of Bannockburn.
The double effigy of Earl Walter and Countess Mary is on display in the chapter house.
Walter died in 1295 and was buired beside his wife in the choir of the priory church, this is a charming effigy of them both.
The priory was visited by King Robert the Bruce the same year he killed John comynn III in Dumfries and again another twice
In 1547 the Scottish Army was defeated on the outskirts of Edinburgh by the English, Pannic was on and saw the hurried departure from Stirling Castle to Inchmahom Priory of the dowager Queen Marie of Guise with her infant daughter of 4 years of age Mary Queen of Scots.
The island was a natural choice of safety and sanctuary close to stirling , It was also in control of the son of Lord Erskine, little Marys Guardian. She stayed here for three weeks her name is still used in the little box tower on the center of the island.
The Graham family have thier resting place here to . I was totaly took aback from this place and i hope to return again in the near future.

    Lochmaben Castle

    Hi friends .
Out on one of my many travels today went to Lochmaben Castle Home and srtong hold of Robert Bruce Lord of Annandale and Earl of Carrick  this was the second Castle built in Lochmaben this one was built by Edward the first of England The first was pulled to ruin by the invading Armies of King Edward the 1 of England in 1298
Robert Bruces this one was where his father died and the bruces made thier home,  it is not viewable to the public because it is on a Golf course near by.
The one viewable today is the one that was fought over by the king s of Scotland and England for many years. This one was built by King Edward 1 of England and was made of timber around the castle a picture shows the Invading scots Army trying to desperatly beat the English Army into defat.
The walls are massive and built by stone took from the southern end of castle loch,
Lochmaben castle wa took by King Robert the Bruce in 1306 just shortly when he became king.Just after the battle of bannockburn on the 23 24 June 1314 the castle was surrendered by the scots  Then the English returned in 1333 holding the castle for another 50 years ,until Archibald the Grim 3rd Earl of Douglas and Lord of Galloway took it once more for the Scots.
This ruin castle is well worth a visit it is truly beautiful.A testimony to the wars of independance.

    Bannockburn Commemoration 20 June 2009

I attended the commemoration at Bannockburn today it was fantastic I enjoyed every minute of it.

I joined in with the Scottish Knights Templar and Clann Gaidhealach.

The Knight Templar is led by my friend Ken Shira and Clann Gaidhealach by Jim Wilson. For me this day is special, Wallace forged it for his country and King Robert took The Crown And won a decisive battle Against King Edward the II of England on the field of Bannockburn on the 23rd and 24th  June 1314,

The day was amazing and I enjoyed every moment of it various groups were there and had various commemoration services on the battlefield. The band Caledonia was there giving the crowed a stirring rouse of the Spirit of Freedom with pipes and drums.

All in all it was a great event well worth the visit even some English tourists turned up and asked about the tartans we were wearing.

The White Cocade loyal to Prince Charles Edward Stewart.

Hi patriots and good friends greetings.
These are some shots i was ready to delet of an old sd card good job i didnt , Bonnie prince charlie ,{ ie The young Pretender.} .
Was in my eyes another great hero of Scotland,
He was born in Italy in Rome He was  christened Charles Edward Louis John Casimir Silvester Maria , he was born on the last day in December 1720 in the palazzo Muti,In Rome.
Charles was the son of James Francis Stuart and granson of King James VII of Scotland and second of England.
King James was rousted of the English throne because of his Roman Catholic faith. His daughter mary married William Prince of Orange and even though Prince Charles was the right full eair William took the throne to stop any catholic assending the throne of England .
Bonnie Prince Charlie landed on his native soil on the 23 July from the ship du Teillay. this is the ship that brung him from France.
His heart and mined must have been confused about the situation in his native country like his for fathers before him. His ancient line went straight back to king Robert the Bruce.
He set foot on an island on the western isle of Eriskey  on a beach today it is the princes strand of beautiful white sand and flowers grow thier today which is still called today the Princes Flower.
He was recognised by jacobites as James the VIII and II although he was never crowned prince charles was brought up to beleve he was the wright full king of Breat Britan George the II was an  upriser in july he landed in Scotland with only seven faithfull suporters and his standered was raised at Glenfinnan on the 19 of Agaust 1745 and James the II was proclaimed king. { bliadhna thearlaich] The year of Charles was begun. the prince campained as far south as Derby hopefull of English jacobite support but never materialised the Army retreated north winning every campain .
Eventualy to be beeten at Culloden on the 16 April 1746 he hid in the heather for five months no highlander gave him up even though the large sum on his head,
.The 45 rebelion was over never again would the jacobite forces take up arms.He died in january 1788 and is buired in the stuart monnument in St Peters in Rome  along with his brother henry.
These potoes are only some and an insite for people of the great and vast history that is in our Country.

Scotlands Greatest son and Warriour Sir William Wallace.

Hi friends today is my birthday and me and my family and my young daughter of three went up to the National Wallace Monnument at Stirling .
We all had a fantastic day out my daughter Abbey climed the stairs to the top of the monnument and i carried her all the way down.
Good on you Abbey on the way down me and Abbey cried Freedom.
The story of Wallace has facinetyed me from a young age and Scottish history was and is my favorite subject I studeyed history at Newbattle Abbey Collage.
And i have a diploma in the subject.
The wallace monnument stands proud on top of the Abbey craig and it was the site of Wallacees Greatest victory He Stood along side his co comander Andrew de Morray . Andrew de Morray was fataliy injured at the battle of Stirling Bridge on the 11 September 1297.
    And died of his wounds.
It is hard to sum Wallace up in my own concept of him but in many Authours and historians he is the Greatest Son of Scotland .
And the greatest Warriour. In my eyes he is the champion of Scottish independance and of the wright to free his Country from English rule.
